Frequently asked questions

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a supportive, non-judgemental space to help you work through any number of issues. We cannot diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe medication, but we can still work with you to manage mental health conditions or achieve goals. We have legal standards to adhere to and on-going professional development as part of our registration.

Are sessions confidential?

In most cases, sessions are 100% confidential. All personal information and progress notes are stored in a secure system that can only be accessed by myself.

Counsellors are mandatory reporters, which means that if imminent harm is disclosed in session, it must be reported to relevant services. This generally means: intent to harm self, intent to harm others or disclosing harm done to a child.

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy believes that we don’t live in our bodies, we are our bodies. It is a body-centred approach to therapy, exploring where our memories and emotions are stored in the body and using supported movements or sounds to ease them out. It is a fully embodied approach that helps us be more in tune with our body’s wants/needs, and in turn helps support our mental health.

Do you offer Private health rebates?

At this stage I do not offer any private health rebates but this may change in the future

Are you an NDIS provider?

At this stage I am not an NDIS provider but this may change in the future

Do you offer in-person counselling?

At this stage I am online only, which gives you flexibility of service. As long as your space is private I am happy to talk with you wherever you are. It’s not appropriate to provide counselling while children are in the room, even if they are small.

Are you LGBTQI+ Friendly?

Very! I have helped many couples and individuals in the rainbow community and am always happy to be educated each person’s individual circumstance. I identify as a bisexual cis-woman in a straight-presenting marriage.

Are you Neuro-diverse friendly?

Yes, and I am very willing to work with you to make sure you are getting the best out of telehealth. I hope you feel safe enough to disclose your neurodiversity to me, whether that be a suspected or clinical diagnosis. Please feel free to guide me on how best to help you.

How many sessions do you recommend?

I am a big believer that every session has value, even the intake session. You set the pace and duration of our counselling and you can have as many or as few as you like. I use Emotion Focused Therapy which tends to be slow and traditionally has many sessions. However, depending on your goals, Emotion Focused Couples therapy still has value even if it’s only a few sessions.

What’s your method for Affair Repair?

I use a twist on the Gottman Method for affair repair; I focus on key components of building trust, ways to show trust when it has been built and co-creating your new relationship together. This support you both to safely work through all that needs to be worked through in order to heal and move forward. This is a delicate process and generally takes at least 6 sessions.
